Increasing your memory can prove to be a very simple way to increase your Mac’s performance. Multi-tasking is enhanced considerably and processing times for memory intensive software (think photoshop or final cut) are decreased considerably. The outcome is often a great increase in overall productiveness.

Here’s an simple way to discover out how much RAM your mac is using and if installing more would be worthwhile:

Open your Activity Monitor (it should be in your Utilities folder). Click on the System Memory tab. If the pie chart is mostly green and blue (representing free and inactive memory, respectively), then you’re in good shape. If the chart is mostly yellow and red (active and wired), then you’re running out of memory and may experience problems. Try opening your activity monitor while conducting different activities. For example, you’ll probably have RAM to spare if you’re only checking email, but rendering video will probably reveal a different result.

How much Memory should I get?

Its pretty simple. Get the most that your system supports.

What kind of RAM should I get?

Don’t concern yourself too much with the brand name. Apple often buys Samsung, Hynix and Micron modules in bulk. There is nothing unique about Apple branded memory (on top of that, Apple’s mark-up is outrageous). Any brand should do- just make sure it fits the specs of your system. Also, consider the warranty offered. Some offer 1 year while others offer a lifetime warranty.

Tips:

Any modern mac computer will have at least two memory slots. Although the brand name isn’t altogether very important, some issues can arise if you mix brands (eg. run one Samsung and one Micron). It is strongly advised that you not do this.

The different variations can be scary for the unfamiliar. Just remember this: If your mac calls for DDR2, then use it and use nothing else. DDR3 will not make your system faster- it just won’t work. Do not mix up your DDR’s.

Generally speaking, the RAM that you buy for your mac will be able to “downclock”. For example, a 1333Mhz module will run in a laptop which is designed for 1066Mhz. Doing this has both benefits and drawbacks. The benefit of doing this is pricing. Like any other commodity, scarcity can result in price increases. It may be a challenge to find 1066Mhz , as it is seldom used anymore (and the price has therefore increased). In this case it may be worth your while to purchase 1333mhz instead.

It should be mentioned however that doing this may cause problems with your mac, especially older macbooks. In addition, if your mac uses a “Penryn” processor (2008, 2009), it is recommended that you use only the actual RAM as specified by Apple- some concerns have been revealed.

With the launch of the latest iPad model, the iPad 2, also comes the latest version of iPad OS 4.3. The final version of iOS 4.3 is set to bring a number of features to the iPad 2 and other Apple devices. Here’s a quick guide to what you can expect.

ITunes Home Sharing

iTunes Home Sharing is a big improvement to the iOS 4.3 system. This means you can play your whole iTunes library no matter where you are in the house. It works by connecting the devices over a Wi-Fi network and accessing the content from your Mac or PC.

Airplay

The iOS 4.3 update brings improvements to Airplay, the function that lets you stream music throughout the home without wires. The upgrade means that you can now stream videos from the Photos app, and view AirPlay enabled apps and websites on the big screen.

Improved Safari Performance

Any browsing performance is always welcomed with every upgrade, and Apple states that iOS 4.3 will bring a much more responsive internet surfing experience, running JavaScript up to twice as fast as with iOS 4.2.2 and loading interactive features much quicker.

iPad Orientation Switch

The side switch on the iPad previously only worked to mute the device, but iOS 4.3 now adds the option to allow users to choose whether they want it as a mute switch, or as a way of locking the orientation of the screen.

Personal Hotspots

This is an update to iPhone 4 users: a feature that can turn the iPhone into a Wi-Fi access point for other Wi-Fi devices. However, this all depends on whether your carrier supports the feature. A maximum of three Wi-Fi devices can be connected at any one time.

iOS 4.3 And the iPad 2

The iPad 2 brings with it a new dual-core processor, meaning that everything will be faster than it was before. And with the new iPad OS 4.3 operating system released at the same time as the iPad 2, you can be sure that, together, they will noticeably improve the performance of the device.

At present, one of the newest hot spots for Apple computers is the iMac RAM. Apple continues to supply innovative items right after becoming the leader in this business for the past decade in terms of the design for pc systems. After introducing the iPhone, it was obvious that this company was properly on its approach to create a number of the most productive and lucrative items in this market.

One of the points that many people agree on, no matter whether or not they’re a fan of Apple’s iMac G4 RAM, would be the design. Apple has completely dominated the overall design of the all-in-one computers, so it’s not surprising that this innovation comes with an amazing modest stand with sleek round corners.

What makes iMac RAM or even Apple in general so appealing? Effectively, becoming a new introduction this iMac RAM addition or maybe this Pentium Intel Processor had been one of the greatest advancements for the iMac. This allowed simple access to programs which had been exclusively designed for the PC to initiate a new world of exciting competition. Although iMacs usually have a 1GB maximum memory, because of the wonderful architectural and design infrastructure of this core processor, it would now seem like to a breeze to run applications and programs like Aperture.

It is fascinating to point out that despite the fact that the design is impressive this just isn’t the only factor that makes this machine greater than the existing computers or the RAM for iMacs. In case you look further pass the design, you will notice a wonderful mouse too. The re-design looks far greater than the older mouse and makes it possible for multi-directional, multi-functional navigation, no matter whether you are working with document, site, program, picture and so on. The new mouse plug-in is one of favorite functions of this upgrade. Yet another factor that users enjoy about Apple items is the use of metal. The metal keyboard set just isn’t just ultra sleek and appealing, you could also use it as weapon if someone is attempting to steal your iMac.

Based on what we have observed it’s clear that Apple was surely not joking when they mentioned that they had been releasing a Turbo-Charged Goliath. This company has stated that the new iMac RAM models will grow to be standard together with the new Intel Core processors. This processor now has an amazing new design based on the Intel 32 nanometer technology, which presently sets the standard for the performance of all the iMacs.
